Bodegas Bilbaínas: Uno de los iconos entre las bodegas riojanas más clásicas
Bodegas Bilbainas es una Bodega centenaria con edificaciones históricas y con una de las mayores superficies de calados subterráneos de La Rioja (3.400m²), construidos a finales del s. XIX.
Los orígenes de la bodega se remontan al año 1859 cuando Savignon Frères & Cie., se establecieron en Haro huyendo de la filoxera que afectaba a los viñedos galos. En 1901, un grupo de empresarios bilbaínos adquirió la bodega y constituyó la sociedad Bodegas Bilbaínas.
Bodegas Bilbainas esta compuesto por 3 grandes bodegas como Bodega Viña Pomal, Bodega Viña Zaco y Bodega La Vicalanda.
Viña Pomal fue concebido por Don Santiago de Ugarte, co-fundador de Bodegas Bilbaínas y primer Director Gerente de la Sociedad. La primera etiqueta en la que aparece Viña Pomal como denominación pertenece a un Reserva Especial de la cosecha 1904 (una añada verdaderamente excepcional).
Aunque después convergirían en una única marca, en 1904 junto con Viña Pomal nació también Castle Pomal que, destinada al mercado británico, revela la importancia que ha tenido y tiene desde siempre la dimensión internacional de la marca. Curiosamente, sólo en las etiquetas de Castle Pomal se incluía el escudo de la Casa Real Española, de la cual la bodega era proveedora oficial de vinos.
