The Txakoli Itsasmendi Eklipse Red Wine from Bodega Itsasmendi presents us with this red wine from the D.O. Bizkaiko Txakolina (Vizcaya, Basque Country), created from the 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Hondarrabi Beltza grape varieties.
Itsasmendi Eklipse is obtained from a selection of grapes from two plots of land located very close to the sea, within what is known as Cantabrian oak forest. This area is characterized by clay-loam soils of limestone origin and a microclimate with a lower rainfall than other plots in the province.
Preparation: The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged for 10 months in 2000-liter French oak barrels and vats, providing structure and complexity to this Txakoli.
Recommended service temperature: Between 14 and 16°C
Itsasmendi Winery
Bodega Itsasmendi was founded in 1995, the year in which its first facilities were inaugurated in Muskiz. In 2002 the winery moved to Gernika, a privileged enclave of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. Mountain slopes near the Gulf of Bizkaia give rise to the name of the winery and its most valuable heritage: 35 hectares of vineyards. Today Itsasmendi is possibly the most important winery in the D.O. Bizkaiko Txakolina.
At Bodega Itsasmendi the wines are made in an intelligent mix of art and technology, intertwined from sensitivity. The practice of respectful viticulture acts as a bridge between nature and great wine.
Itsasmendi Vineyard
The 35 hectares of vineyard are divided into 15 different plots, carefully selected by the winery's technical team and which provide great biodiversity in the harvested grapes. A markedly Atlantic climate, the great geological and microclimatic diversity and a winegrowing philosophy of maximum environmental respect are the arguments for working on the axes of quality and sustainability. The use of native varieties with a marked terroir character such as Hondarrbi Zuri and Hondarrabi Zuri Zerratie accentuate the richness provided by the nature of the place.
