El Bierzo is a heterogeneous area with a wide variety of soils, altitudes and exposures, and a whimsical variety Mencia when mature, but this lack of uniformity has been especially noteworthy in this vintage 2012, with the beginning of imbalanced cycle due to weather conditions that came up vintage, offering different rates of maturation in the same strain. 

 

The winter was mild, with temperatures reaching up to 25 º C in February, and little precipitation: only 578 liters in an area accustomed to rain than 800 liters. Due to the mild temperatures, the plants began to sprout early, too early, and April frost and unexpected rainfall during spring (over 150 liters) not only led to an unbalanced vegetative development but also a flowering period that came to extended to a full month for the same strain. Summer was mild and moderately humid luck but this lack of uniformity had provided no decision of the harvest date. The harvest was finally opened on 14 September, later than usual, in the sunniest areas of Corullón, San Martin and Fontelas, following Moncerbal October 19, Las Lamas 20, and ending with the Pharaoh, the vineyard more mysterious. 

 

Climate variability is common but the Bierzo never fail to impress. The 2012 vintage offers end wines with great vitality and elegance, wines full of ancient knowledge, in which the stiffness and strength are revealed nuances involved aromatic and delicious flavor.
