Viñedos y Bodega Tajinaste presents the Tajinaste Traditional Red Wine from the Valle de la Orotava designation of origin (Canary Islands). It is made from 100% Listán Negro grape variety.
Listán Negro was initially planted in Castile during the 16th century. However, people who came to the Canary Islands brought the grape to this part, and now Listán Negro is more abundant in Tenerife, where it belongs to other designations of origin such as Tacoronte-Acentejo and Valle de la Orotava. There are over 5,000 hectares of this grape variety in the Canary Islands. The 100% Listán Negro comes from three training systems: Some are cultivated using the classic and typical system of our region, the multiple braided cordon; others are trellised with a simple cordon formation; and others are trained with Royat.
Viñedos y Bodega Tajinaste
The origin of Viñedos y Bodega Tajinaste is deeply connected to the rich history of white wines in the Canary Islands. One aspect that stabilizes the high quality of the wines from this winery is the volcanic soils originating from the birth of the Canary Islands millions of years ago. Volcanic eruptions also ensured that the land of Los Realejos would be positioned over 1200 meters above sea level. For these reasons, there have never been times where detrimental pests to wine production like phylloxera have been able to survive in this vineyard. Additionally, preventing phylloxera invasions has allowed the old vines of Viñedos y Bodegas Tajinaste to maintain their original pattern; this fact distinguishes Viñedos y Bodegas Tajinaste from other wineries for the uniqueness of having original strains.
